I have a e-machine with a integrated video chip (nVidia Geforce 6100 SE) and would like to upgrade.
So I bought a 7900 GS from e-bay and all i got was the video card, no booklet, cd, or anything.
I opened the computer, installed the video card, and plugged in the monitor but it's just black, i can hear the video card's fan but no picture, can anyone help?
thanks in advance|||I'm not familiar with your system, but most of that type have a setting in BIOS to select between on-board video and an add-on card. USUALLY, it will automatically switch if it detects an installed video card (regardless of driver issues), though this is not always the case.
Reboot and enter your BIOS setup - you should find the setting pretty easily.
If this doesn't help, copy down the exact model number from the new card and check the manufacturer's web site for troubleshooting and possible compatibility issues.|||No problem. You need to enter the BIOS (usually by pressing Del, F1, or F2) look around until you find the video control and change the primary video adapter from "onboard" to PCI, PCIe, or AVG, depending on the type of card and slot that your computer uses. To do this you will, of coarse, need to be plugged into the onboard connector. Once you have changed the setting in the BIOS you will need to change the video over to the new card. That should do it.
Happy New Year.|||Most 7900GS needed a 6pin power connector at the end of the card, did you do that ?
Also if you have a weak PSU, it may not be pumping out enough power to drive the card.
Also some BIOS (only very few of them) required you to disable onboard video first.|||1. Check & put the video card in appropriate slot... like PCI or AGP or PCI-E
2. Use genuine and correct power supply.
3. Install drivers from CD or Nvidia website|||you did plug your screen into the card didnt you?
if not the card dont work
or the power for the card
