General video card question please help?

Alright so my friend sent me a 8600 gt video card w/o the installation disc can i still use the card and install it from the nvidia site or can i not install the card at all without the disc?|||The "Disk" are drivers you can get them at the NVIDIA site. (I highly recommend instead of the Disk)

Drivers.

Therefore Absolutely no disk needed.|||You do not need the disc to install the card.

When you plug the card into your motherboard, and then boot up your computer the card will run in plug & play mode, and a generic video card driver would be installed on your O/S.

You should then go to the nVidia site to install the latest drivers for your card so you can use the card at its fullest. :)

In fact it is a better option to install the drivers from the website anyway, since they keep updating the drivers and the drivers on installation discs get outdated very quickly.|||download the newest one from nvidias website.

download drivercleaner pro v1.5 (free)

uninstall the old grafx driver.

reboot into safe mode (F8) and use driver cleaner to clean leftovers.

shutdown pc.

install new card and boot.

install nvidia driver and after reboot install directX (again).|||The drivers will be available from their website. Just be sure that you get the latest version for the right card and correct OS. It'll probably be in the realm of a 100-200MB file depending on the install suite.
